Abstract
If some are to be believed, the urban era has come to an end in the United States. Whether in news media, professional and academic circles, in the halls of politics, or on the trading floor, American cities are increasingly depicted and convicted as the root of hygienic, social, and economic failure. Among other factors, the recent COVID-19 pandemic and the murder of George Floyd have breathed new life into America's centuries-long tradition of anti-urbanism. By the end of 2020, the narrative on cities had shifted from opportunity to obsolescence, from dynamism to danger.
