Weaving together: Exploring how pluralistic mathematical practices emerge through weaving

Abstract

Inequities in math achievement and participation still exist, particularly for women and people of color. I argue that there is promise in weaving, a craft with deep roots in mathematics, to encourage diverse mathematical practices. This dissertation explores these intersections through interviews with experienced weavers and a 10-day weaving workshop with children.
