Abstract
In academic web space, only a small portion of hyperlinks point to topic-related contents, while most of them are designed for general use. In this study, a hierarchy affiliation model (department-school-university) is proposed to extract discipline structure from linkage network and then to evaluate the discipline visibility on academic web. The case study of the Chinese academic web shows that this hierarchy model performs better in detecting disciplines on academic web over that was applied previously to a similar sample set.
