N2 - For the past three years, the New York State Department of Transportation has been experimenting with Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) materials in bridge applications. These projects include strengthening reinforced concrete bridge beams and capbeams, wrapping concrete columns to arrest deterioration, and replacing heavy, old superstructures components with lightweight FRP components. This paper describes some of these applications and the nondestructive testing techniques that were used to evaluate the in-service performance, and effectiveness of the methods used for the design of these materials.
