Abstract

Adenosine is highly effective in terminating tachycardias in which the atrioventricular (AV) node is part of the reentrant circuit. In addition, adenosine may be useful in distinguishing between types of tachycardia because its effects are so predictable. The short half-life of adenosine makes its use generally safe, with minimal and, at most, short-lived side effects.
