Abstract
« Landed Value with Promise : Identity in the Historic Centre of Palma (Mallorca, Spain) » This paper discusses the role played by local associations in smoothing gentrification processes, an aspect largely neglected by the specialized literature. On the basis of a case study in the historic centre of Palma (Majorca, Spain), the author focuses attention on the mechanisms through which a specific Neighbourhood Association (Associació de veins) enables and manages the gentrification of its area. How does it strategically mobilize identity markers to achieve this goal ? Using this ethnographic material, the author draws some theoretical and methodological conclusions around the concept of gentrification.
