Time-domain analyses of three-dimensional dam-reservoir interactions by BEM and semi-analytical method

Abstract

The time-domain solution of the hydrodynamic pressure for the far field of an infinite reservoir is the prerequisite for the nonlinear analyses of dam-reservoir systems. In this paper, an exact consideration of the three-dimensional transmitting boundary condition in the far field of an infinite reservoir is presented. The solution procedures, including a combination of the boundary element method for the near field, which adopts half space fundamental solutions and quadratic (higher order) elements, and continuum expressions in the infinite direction of the far field are also introduced. Results obtained by the proposed method compared very well with available analytical solutions for simple geometrics. Results of the dam-reservoir system with arbitrary shapes are also presented.
