Abstract

A standardizable method is proposed here which is intended to help fulfill current and future needs. The method involves the use of molds with variable geometry (VARIMOLDS). VARIMOLDS can be used in conventional thermoforming equipment for the rapid evaluation of materials and the effect of operating parameters. With suitable instrumentation linked to a microprocessor, detailed quantitative information can be obtained and used in conjunction with mathematical models for the simulation of the thermoforming process including the influence of processing parameters on the final properties and performance of thermoformed parts.
