Abstract
A review is presented of thermoanalytical work on graphite intercalated with bromine. By thermal electron diffraction, thermal x-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry, the melting transformation was observed reversibly at 374 K and was found to be a continuous transition. By thermogravimetric analysis, intercalate desorption was found to behave as the outdiffusion of the intercalate, with an activation energy of 17 kcal/mol below the melting temperature and 4 kcal/mol above the melting temperature. The rate of desorption was enhanced by melting.
