Abstract
Pharmacokinetic principles and major areas of difficulty and controversy in the application of these principles are reviewed. An approach to aminoglycoside monitoring reflective of the pharmacokinetics and the controversies is offered. Finally, a brief overview of nonpharmacokinetic considerations that are important in the use of this class of drugs is offered.
