Abstract
This study assessed the outcomes of a public library's attempts to fulfill the public policy roles imposed by Industry Canada, through its Connecting Canadians initiative. This federal government initiative identified public libraries as agents for facilitating access by Canadians to information technology (IT), to resources that support economic and community development, and to training in information-literacy skills. A case study was completed of one large urban public library in Canada, including semi-structured interviews with managers and analyses of organizational documents, to assess the response of that particular organization to the expectations placed upon it by the federal government.
