Abstract

Molecular studies are poised to resolve areas of uncertainty which have existed for nearly 200 years concerning the taxonomy, evolution and phylogenetic relationships of the cladoceran crustaceans. This paper aims to both summarise some of the key methodological advances which have set the stage for rapid progress and to discuss four areas of work which will profit from their application.
