Abstract
General surgery continues to evolve from a time where a single surgeon did everything from brain surgery to orthopedics to an era of super specialization. We are now seeing those trends circle back with the rise of the acute care surgeons who provide the frontline care and are now called upon to do far more than trauma. This will force collisions between groups that have not always work together to find common ground as the definition of a general surgeon continues to evolve.
