THE FREEDOM PROJECT NETWORK: Expanding Access to Holistic, Liberatory Educational Experiences

The Freedom Project Network is a statewide collective of afterschool and summer youth leadership programs, called Freedom Projects, that are inspired by the history and spirit of Mississippi’s 1964 Freedom Summer movement, an interracial movement to register Black voters throughout the South in the face of violent resistance. With three Freedom Projects located in Sunflower, Rosedale, and Meridian, Mississippi, the Freedom Project Network collectively supports over 100 students and families each year. As a collective, the Freedom Project Network asserts that education is the seed of freedom that is essential to realizing sustainable economic and social freedom for historically marginalized communities. From there, he served in a variety of different capacities within education nonprofit space before eventually returning to the Freedom Project family to lead the Freedom Project Network. High school students participate in Freedom Summer Collegiate, a Freedom Project Network program that brings college faculty and doctoral candidates to the Freedom Projects to lead month-long intensive, credit-bearing summer courses.
