Abstract

In this paper, the author examines variations in the export-related behaviour of 148 manufacturing firms in the Buffalo SMSA. Using corporate-level data, two interrelated models are formulated to estimate the propensity of firms to export and to account for variations in levels of export performance. The objective is to construct a forecasting method that can be used by government policymakers and business decision makers who are interested in identifying and developing the export potentials of American manufacturing enterprises. -Author
