Abstract
The design and construction of the six-story concentrically braced frame (CBF) and eccentrically braced frame (EBF) structures that were tested on the U. C. Berkeley earthquake simulator is discussed in the introduction to this paper. The two structures are analyzed for their compliance with the current earthquake-resistant regulations. The dynamic characteristics of the model structures and the pertinent results and conclusions of the testing program are also summarized in this paper. The implications of the test results are then assessed with respect to current practice for the design of dual steel structural systems.
