Abstract
TEM results indicate that the drop in strength during the initial stage of retrogression is due to the partial dissolution of G. P. zones while the growth of the semi-coherent eta prime is responsible for rapid recovery. It is suggested that retrogression and reaging resulted in an increase in volume fraction of G. P. zones and especially eta prime precipitates over both the T6 and retrogressed conditions, therefore improving the strength. 21 refs.
