Abstract
The synthesis of selenium nanoparticles through the reduction of aqueous selenious acid solution by sodium borohydride was investigated. The UV-vis spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) studies were carried out for the characterization of the nanoparticles. The photocatalytic behavior of selenium nanoparticles in decolorization of methylene blue in the presence of UV light was also studied. It was observed that the nanoparticles afforded a complete mineralization process and the rate of dye decolorization varied linearly with the nanoparticle concentration.
