Abstract
The findings indicate that the PBL of gravid women do not contain de novo suppressor cells but do possess the same inherent potential for suppression of cell mediated immune responses as do those of non pregnant individuals. Inducibility of suppressor activity using a range of Con A doses does not vary between women in the first trimester of pregnancy and in non pregnant individuals. This observation does not support a role for suppressor cells in circulating blood as a mechanism for preventing rejection of the fetal allografts during pregnancy.
