Abstract

This tutorial paper covers two crucial aspects of successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converter (ADC). First, a mathematical analysis for two commonly used SAR ADC topologies is presented, and then the power dissipation aspect of SAR ADC is discussed for different switching schemes. The paper also provides some design criteria for practical implementation of SAR ADCs.
