Study of the sagging of styrenic sheets associated with the thermoforming process

Abstract

A detailed study of sagging was performed using commercial sheet stock consisting of a 50/50 blend of Stereon 900 and polystyrene. Sheets of different thicknesses were used. On each sheet, a grid pattern was drawn. Sheets were clamped in two opposite configurations, and placed in a heated convection oven at various temperatures and for various time durations. Finally, the extent of sagging and the extension ratio and thickness distribution were measured.
