STOCHASTIC MODEL FOR BIOLOGICAL TISSUE ELASTICITY.

Abstract

A mathematical model is developed which relates the mechanical behavior of collagen and elastin fibers to the tangent modulus of biological tissues at each deformed state. Since there exists extremely complex interplays between randomly arranged collagen and elastin fibers, the problem is studied from a stochastic point of view. In the analysis, the tissue is treated as a transversely isotropic incompressible material reinforced by ″equivalent″ parallel fibers and is composed of ground substance, elastin, and collagen fibers.
