Abstract
The special issue of the Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems focuses on cyber transportation systems (CTS) and connected vehicle (CV) research. From a safety perspective, the connected vehicle?infrastructure environment will provide numerous opportunities for sending warning messages to the driver about various types of driving hazards. CVs also have the potential to aid in improving transportation system resiliency by helping optimize traffic flow during emergencies, providing early detection of hazards, and helping keep the traveler connected throughout the different phases of an emergency situation.
