Solubilization of Rat Whole Blood and Erythrocytes for Automated Determination of Lead Using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry

Abstract

A method is presented for solubilizing blood or erythrocytes for lead determinations using tetramethylammonium hydroxide. Solubilization of the samples allows for automatic injection into the graphite furnace of an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Automation resulted in improved ease of operation with greater precision, when compared to established methods for blood and erythrocyte lead determinations. Accuracy, sensitivity, and limits of detection were maintained with this solubilization procedure.
