Abstract
The concept of scale space can be perceived as a structured way to represent one- or two-dimensionsal signals at various levels of detail. In this paper we examine the use of scale space techniques to represent the object space. We focus on the problem that arises from the fact that the object space conveys two relatively independent forms of information, radiometric as well as geometric. We present the relationship of the scale space representation of the object space to that of the corresponding image space. This is accomplished by investigating the image formation process as it combines object and image space. The structured and well-behaved properties of scale space representation are employed to store, process and display digital elevation and radiometric models. -Authors
