Abstract

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is considered an immune-mediated inflammatory disease of the central nervous system (CNS) affecting primarily young adults. The cause of MS remains unknown, but its extensively studied epidemiology has highlighted MS as a complex, multifactorial induced disease involving genetic and environmental factors. Data from natural history cohorts show a broad spectrum of disease severities.
