Resolution enhancement in digital in-line holography

Abstract

Both the reconstructed image bandwidth, which is limited by the finite size of the hologram, and twin image artifact caused by the lack of phase information, restrict the achievable reconstruction resolution using in-line holography. In this paper, an new interative error energy reduction algorithm is used to address these problems. This algorithm suggests the possibility of superresolution in in-line holography, in which the conventional diffraction limit may be approached or even exceeded. Superresolution has been demonstrated for several other types of coherent and incoherent imaging, but not yet for holography.
