Abstract
Oneida expresses coreference (or coindexing) by means of two verbal prefixes: the reflexive and the semi-reflexive. Coindexing is strictly a matter of morphology; there are no reflexive nominals, and the verbal prefixes are not grammatical voice morphemes. Both prefixes have other functions as well; for example the semireflexive derives anticausative verbs and verbs of nontranslational motion, and the reflexive can express reciprocity.
