Abstract
The article discusses the usefulness of far-IR magnetospectroscopy in the study of single-particle electronic states and their interactions with the other elementary excitations in semiconductors. The spin-flip resonances discussed provide information complementary to that obtained from cyclotron resonance studies. Although measurements are presently confined to small-gap semiconductors, it seems likely that with improvements in sensitivity such measurements can be extended to other materials. Far-IR magnetooptical techniques have proved to be a powerful tool in studies of the coupling of single particle excitations to optical phonons, and thus have provided a great deal of insight into the nature of electron-phonon coupling.
