Abstract
Radiographic contrast can be enhanced both by the use of digital image processing and by reducing the contribution to the image of scattered and off-focal radiation. Scanning x-ray beam scatter reduction techniques, while recognized to be among the most efficient, generally require long x-ray exposure times. The use of continuously rotating rather than reciprocating apertures allows short exposures as well as dynamic imaging. An overview is presented of techniques to apply rapid scanning x-ray beams formed by rotating apertures to digital radiography. Various combinations of rotating aperture (RA) devices with multiple linear and area digital image detectors are discussed.
