Abstract
This chapter provides a comprehensive review of quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) in the context of multiple sclerosis (MS). It elaborates on the ability of QSM to quantify magnetic susceptibility, thereby capturing variations in myelin and iron concentration in the central nervous system. The technicalities involved in QSM, applications, and the challenges associated with interpreting susceptibility changes are thoroughly explored. This chapter particularly underscores the use of QSM in scrutinizing deep gray matter, normal-appearing white matter, and focal white matter damage in people with MS. Providing a comprehensive exploration of QSM’s potential in enhancing diagnostic precision and monitoring disease progression in MS, this chapter targets experts in the field keen on in-depth understanding of QSM’s role in MS research.
