Abstract
Azidothymidine (AZT) was administered to rats by an osmotic pump and by a multiple-dose regimen. The cannula attached to the pump was placed in the external carotid artery to facilitate intraarterial delivery of AZT. Mean AZT serum and brain concentrations measured over seven days in the pump group were relatively constant and indicated an increase in brain uptake com- pared to animals that received the multiple-dose regimen.
