Abstract
In this chapter, the authors propose an ant colony optimization (ACO)-based algorithm with the topology of the network for the functional module detection. Here, they use ACO-based algorithm to solve the function module detection problem in protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks. Here, they introduce the properties of PPI networks. The previous graph clustering methods that can be applied to functional module identification from biological networks will be introduced. The authors introduce a method to build a weighted PPI network. An ACO-based clustering algorithm will be explained in detail. They conclude the chapter by presenting experimental results that illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
