Abstract

The feautures of a burst overlap reduction algorithm (BORA) were discussed. BORA proactively avoided burst contention at downstream nodes and was applicable to OBS networks with or without wavelength conversion capability. Unlike other algorithms, BORA was found to serialize the outgoing bursts using as few wavelengths as possible so as to proactively avoid burst contention at downstream nodes. BORA could also be applied at core nodes by using FDLs to serialize bursts instead of just reactively resolving local contention.
