Abstract

Strongly preferential adsorption of CH₄ over H₂ was observed for certain coals. At 27 °C and near atmospheric pressures, the amount of CH₄ adsorbed was about an order of magnitude higher than that of H₂ on the Pittsburgh bituminous coal, whereas no preferential adsorption of CH₄ was observed for the Illinois bituminous coal.
