Abstract
The aim of this study was to establish a test battery that would differentiate between individuals of varying skill levels. Twenty-five volunteer subjects in 3 age groups were tested on 5 riding performance variables and on 13 physical and perceptual-motor ability factors thought to be related to riding performance. A number of the physical and perceptual-motor abilities were significantly correlated with riding performance variables. A principal components analysis was then used to identify three components of cycling skill, the first two of which were found to be positively associated with riding performance. Predictive equations based on these two components were provided, and recommendations for bicycling skill assessment given.
