Post-Tensioned Energy Dissipating (PTED) steel frames for seismic regions

Abstract

The concept and behavior of post-tensioning energy dissipating (PTED) moment-resisting steel frames were described. PTED connections, if carefully designed, can exhibit a flag-shaped hysteresis with full re-centering capability along with energy dissipation. When the response of a frame system incorporating PTED connections is considered, the system exhibits a complex behavior. The hysteretic characteristics of PTED frames depend on the bending stiffness of the columns as well as on the length of each span.
