Abstract
A 300% increase in the discharge capacity of Li/BCX cells was obtained when the porous reduction electrode was made from carbon filaments (of diameter 0.1 μm and surface treated) instead of carbon black. A discharge capacity of 4800 mA.h/g carbon at 2 V cut-off was thus achieved. The porous carbon made from the filaments was handleable even without a binder, whereas that made from carbon black required a binder for handleability.
