Abstract
Pneumonia is the second most common cause of infection among residents in nursing homes and is associated with the highest mortality of any infection occurring in this setting (1). In addition, pneumonia is a common reason for transfer from the nursing home to the hospital (1). This section reviews the literature on nursing home-associated pneumonia (NHAP) and has a particular focus on the management and prevention of this infection.
