Abstract

It is the nature of debate to pull things apart - ethics versus aesthetics, process versus product, democracy through the commons versus branding. While all authors in this volume debated and refined their own viewpoints in the 2024 Rudy Bruner Debate on Urban Excellence, they collectively argue that place and placemaking have the potential to bring diverse concepts, values, and ways of thinking together in the context of ever-present uncertainty.
