Abstract

A summary of the physical properties of water is provided. Particular attention is directed to density, or buoyancy, because of its importance to mixing and water quality, and its unusual characteristic of reaching a maximum value at a temperature above freezing. The incompressibility assumption is described, as well as other properties that are important in understanding the behavior of water.
