Abstract
Modeling of surface-emitting (SE) lasers is presented for the first time. Langevin noise-driven rate equations are used to model typical SE lasers producing photon statistics, relative intensity noise (RIN) as a function of frequency, and relaxation oscillation frequency. The simulation time required is 4 min on a DEC 3100 workstation, allowing the tailoring of laser characteristics in real time by the device and system designer.
