Abstract
This paper presents a scheme to recover the phase of a diffracted wave from the knowledge of its amplitude. We utilize the Helmholtz wave equation to relate the phase and amplitude of a diffracted wave; this relationship is the basis of a perturbation solution for the phase function. Signal processing issues associated with the implementation of the scheme are discussed. Applications of the method in certain phase reconstruction/unwrapping problems are shown.
