Abstract
A study describing the performance of non-structural components during the 2001 Nisqually earthquake was presented. A large portion of the estimated two billion dollar loss resulting from the Nisqually earthquake was associated with damage to nonstructural components. It was observed that the inferior performance of nonstructural components reduced the overall performance of many building systems. The performance of ceiling systems, interior and exterior wall finishes, window systems, building contents, gas, water and electrical systems was investigated.
