Penile leiomyosarcoma: Sonographic and magnetic resonance imaging findings

Penile leiomyosarcoma is a relatively rare neoplasm, of which only 27 cases have been reported in the world literature, most before the time that imaging modalities such as ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) began to be used for characterization and staging. Therefore, very limited information regarding the imaging features of these neoplasms is available. We present the ultrasonographic and MRI findings that helped characterize a penile mass as a neoplasm and also suggested the type of neoplasm. By showing additional unsuspected lesions, ultrasonography and MRI changed the surgical course from partial to total penectomy.
