Abstract

Oxidation of castanospermine (1) (HI0₄) and its 6-O-acetyl derivative 7 [Pb(OAc)₄], followed by reduction and acetylation, were reported. A mechanism is proposed for the novel Pb(OAc)₄ oxidation of a β-tertiary amino alcohol.
