Abstract

The orbital ordering in LaMnO3 was investigated using resonance Raman spectroscopy. The spectral ellipsometry was used to determine the corresponding dielectric function. It was observed that the phonon modes with their individual resonance properties yielded a complicated two-phonon spectrum between 1100 cm-1 and 1300 cm-1. The results show resonant behavior of the phonon Raman cross section when the laser frequency is close to the orbiton-excitation energy of 2 eV in LaMnO3.
