Abstract
Squamous cell carcinoma is still the most common mucosal malignancy of the head and neck, and the second most common head and neck cancer behind thyroid cancer. The demographic of oral cancer patients is still dominated by smokers, males, and those of increased age. However, the profile, genetics, and subsite prevalence of oral cancer are changing, as are staging guidelines, assessment, and patient workup. These details will be discussed here in this chapter on oral cancer: classification, diagnosis, and staging.
