Abstract
Analytical and numerical results are presented on the statistics of the impulsive admittance and frequency response of a linear chain of N degrees of freedom when the physical properties of its elements are only known in a stochastic sense. These results illustrate, on a quantitative basis, the significance of stochastic parameters on the dynamical behavior of engineering systems, and thereby enable us to rationally establish acceptable tolerance on system components to achieve certain accuracy in predicted system performance.
