Abstract

Olecranon fractures are a frequently encountered injury to the upper extremity and often result from a low-energy fall. These fractures can be classified based on the displacement and degree of comminution. The Colton classification and the Mayo classification are commonly used classification systems. Treatment may consist of nonoperative treatment for select indications. Operative treatment may include open reduction and internal fixation with a variety of implants or excision if the fracture is very proximal with advancement of the triceps.
